I am trying to create a family tree, I entered as much info as I could and was expecting for the rest to be populated once I paid my subscription but nothing at all came through - am I not doing it the right way or is the issue that my research is french based when this site is not?

my parents and grandparents never lived a private life so surely there must be tons of information out there.

Geneanet is a genealogy website and you must make the research by yourself for your parents and grand-parents. I suggest that you ask your parents for the name of their own parents, and maybe more information about them.

Thanks for your reply but I do the research myself what is the point of my subscription? Sounds like this isn't the right tool for me, how can I get a refund of my subscription since I haven't used the site??

Geneanet is a collection of documents, indexes, and trees submitted by other users. Nothing will be magically populated, as you may have seen on TV for other services.

However, you will be able to find matching ancestors in other users' trees, but only if those ancestors are present in other trees. That is more likely to happen if those ancestors are 3 or more generations removed. And since the majority of Geneanet users are French, most of the trees contain people who lived in France and neighboring countries. So you're in the right place for French research, but may have to dig a little further before you can find matches.

Premium subscription offers additional tools (as explained here), but is not required for you to maintain a tree on the site. If you still want to obtain a refund, use the Contact link at the bottom of the page and open a ticket.

@pcmambo: You have subscribed on November 20, 2018, and the withdrawal period has expired for months. We are sincerely sorry that we can't refund the subscription.

Geneanet is not a social media but a genealogy website. You must make the research by yourself for your parents and grandparents then you can search our databases for the next generations of ancestors.

Is there anything that I need to do to avoid it being automatically re-conducted next November or will it just expire then?

Renewal is not automatic. Just ignore the reminders you will receive.
