Is Boyval derived from Boival, or the reverse? Or neither?
See: The earliest record found of our name, de Boyval, is the 13th century. Three de Boyval men, sergeants at arms, are mentioned in the Patent Rolls of Henry 3 of England in his payment to them for their service in defending the Tower of London.  www.uiowa.edu/~acadtech/patentrolls/, Henry III, vol. 6, pp. 121, 142, and 164. On May 30, 1267 at Stratford, for their defense of the Tower of London the King ordered that horses be purchased for Robert, Jakenin and William de Boyval who had retired from the garrison of the Tower.

Should be derived from Boisval. "Bois" means "small forest" and "Val" means "small valley". I suggest that the name "Boisval" means "small forest in the small valley".
Best wishes,
